The kilns are thought to be over 200 years old and have recently been listed as a Heritage site. Lime was mined and brought down from the higher parts of Clee Hill by a basic railway system. It was then loaded into the kilns and burnt off for as long as a month. The lime powder would then be raked onto carts and used in smelting and as fertiliser.
